THE
BORGHESE GALLERY
Built at the beginning of the 17th century to house a collection of sculpture and
painting assembled by cardinal Scipione Borghese this pavilion is nestled in a huge
park of around 688 hectares and has one of the richest collections of Rome.
The
museum hosts over a hundred paintings ranging from the 15th to the 18th century with
artists like Titian, Raphael and Caravaggio, but the highlights are the marble statues
by Lorenzo Bernini who, still a teenager, began to work under the cardinal to become
the leading artist in Rome.
Tickets must be reserved in advance.
